Tiny Needles
Last night I started working with the lace-weight cashmere I got at Stitches. Man, it's a beeyatch. I can't quite get the hang of the itty bitty size 1 needles. The aluminum tips just won't grab onto the yarn. Is there such a thing as bamboo circulars?
With Rob home and unable to move, I've prepared three meals a day for a couple of days and cleaned up after all of them. How do regular housewives do this every day? I'm pooped. And there's still laundry to do! I do have to say, though, that the tortilla soup I made last night was freaking awesome. And I sure miss my mobile, helpful honey.
Tonight it's takeout and nice thick Brooks Farm Mohair on number 8 needles. I need a rest.
(Here's the aforementioned Brooks Farm Mohair. The piece is a lot longer now, but you get the idea.)

Duh. They take crystal meth, new drug of choice for soccer moms and housewives.

Bust out the Sudafed, baby!

Hey! I take exception to the crystal meth remark. We're all on Ritalin, by golly.
Now I have to go clean my bathtub with a toothbrush and make a 7 course meal!

I'd settle for Ritalin at this point. :)

Was it the tortilla soup from a recent Cook's? That was fabulous.

No, but I read that recipe and considered it while I was making it. I used Rick Bayless' recipe, which was a little more labor-intensive. DAMN, it was good. The big differences were that I fried the tortillas (a rich, heady flavor), roasted the garlic, onions and ancho peppers (instead of using canned chipotles, which I don't really like) and I made my own chicken stock (Cook's Ilustrated - the bomb), and I actually have epazote growing in my garden. I tasted the broth before I added it, and it was delicious, but after I added it, it was insanely good. (If I thought I could freeze it successfully, I'd send you some.) I also could have gotten crema and the appropriate Mexican cheeses across the street, but I was too lazy. I just used Monterey Jack. Still, it was divine. Sort of overkill considering the chilaquiles the night before, but YUM anyway.

With all the work you put into making that tortilla soup, are you sure you aren't taking some drugs already? :)
If you ever do get around to making a Backyard Leaves scard, the desire to drug yourself might increase :).
Unfortunately, I think bamboo circs come only in US 3 and higher. I hope you're able to get the metal ones to work... or you can always use bamboo straights.

Note to self - steal some of Rob's vicodin for the Backyard Leaves attempt. I'm thinking about trying it using Cashmerino Aran. Yours are alpaca, aren't they?
I did find some teensy bamboo circulars! Bless those nice people at Crystal Palace!

Woo! About the teensy bamboo circs, that is.
My Backyard Leaves are 100% alpaca. I'd recommend something that you can wear next to your neck (duh!), so soft and non-itchy. The scarf also tends to fold/curl under, so any yarn that keeps nice shape after blocking would be good. Alpaca is great for that.
Cashmerino Aran is lovely, as long as it's pink!

Well, obviously it'd be pink. :)
